Abstract
Through the discursive analysis of opening speeches by Hungarian Ministers of Education and the guiding principles of central curricula, the paper attempts to reveal and understand the special triggers of the failures of the Hungarian education system (such as the dominance of political decision-making, the overwhelming crisis narrative, decentralization etc.)
