Abstract
The Tömörkény Society was one of the most distinctive formations of the cultural history of Szeged between the two wars. Its main aim was to cultivate the cult of István Tömörkény (1866-1917). Its chairman was Gyula Juhász (1883-1937), its secretary István Hegyi (1896-1951). It
probably operated occasionally, mainly in the form of a table society, the national press rarely reported on its events, and local newspapers only reported on what was happening in public. The running of the society, the organisation and running of events, the maintenance of contacts and other similar tasks were the responsibility of the secretary and, like all organisational work, were invisible to the public. The three letters published in this essay provide details of the work of the secretary and thus of the history of the Tömörkény Society.
