Abstract

The aim of this study is to present a bibliometric software that is unused in the field of social sciences in Hungary. Furthermore, it analyses the content characteristics and changes in the Hungarian educational research publications and places them in an international context. The study is a direct continuation of two previous publications from 2023. In the first one, basic formal features were identified using a systematically selected dataset of 112 items published between 2012 and 2022. The other presented a procedure that allowed making the same dataset compatible with the VOSviewer software. The comparison is based on a study with a similar topic published in 2023, which also served as a methodological model. In a keyword-based analysis of Hungarian publications, the main key terms of the field were identified. These were largely the same as in the previous study (e.g. disadvantage, higher education, students, quantitative research, school success, equal opportunities, performance, achievement, family background). Seven distinct but related topics and their evolution through time, based on clusters formed using the software are presented. Findings have been visualised with bibliometric maps. The international comparison revealed some under-researched topics that are popular abroad. Finally, suggestions for Hungarian authors to effectively contribute to the international discourse are made.
