Abstract

In this paper we would like to provide an account of the first impressions and experiences of the transition to the digital distance learning paradigm in the Hungarian education system in the wake of the COVID-19 global pandemic. We investigate the emerging situation through the administration and analysis of an intra-institutional questionnaire (N=243) and a separate, self-developed questionnaire administered to secondary school students and students of higher education institutions (N=163). Altogether 406 respondents were involved in the research project. After having surveyed the already existing literature and already conducted studies on the subject, we also provide an account of our own experiences as practicing teachers. Our aim is to provide an empirically grounded analysis and assessment of the current situation for teachers and for scholars working in the field of pedagogy. However, comparing certain age groups and different actors of education was not among the aims of the present study, but to account for the observable similarities and generalizable trends among them.
