Experiences of Content and Language Integrated Learning in a summer camp

Abstract

Somé specialists (Vámos and Kovács 2008, Borsné and Nagy 2006, Bognár 2005) have pointed out the fact ihat CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Leaming) is one of the most important approaches to teaching foreign languages. In the last three years we have tested the possibility of combining English as a foreign language and science activities in a summer camp, organised by SzeReTeD laboratory for student, where one of the science classes was held in English each day. In this study we share our experience, introduce the syllabus of the camp and the topics of the English language science classes. We discuss the aims of the classes, the preparatory work, the details of the realization, the difficulties and the steps we made to overcome these.
