Abstract

The symbols of victory are known in various cultures. In Europe, of ancient Mediterranean origins, mainly developed in antiquity have been passed down, partly modified and supplemented with new meanings. Christianity also exhibits compelling instances of reinterpreting Greco-Roman triumphant motifs, alongside its new victory symbols. The study examines these symbols that have been inherited from ancient times and the changes in their meanings. Although symbol signs agreed upon by consensus are common in abstract concepts, victory symbols are interesting because they frequently incorporate ancient gestures and expressions, possibly merging upon triumphal symbols from different times.
