Abstract

In the second half of the twentieth century, I observe the possible parallels between two differently dominant literary figures. Two prominent figures of Hungarian prose literature have been a decisive part of literary history in different ways. The narrative of Magda Szabó's novel Pilátus and Miklós Mészöly's short novel Megbocsátás, and within it the description of an image, create the parallel. It is worth noting the functions of the religious mass product, how it is linked to the stories, what existential meanings can be attached to it.
