Mothers' Reading Habits with their Preschool Children in a Bilingual Environment

Abstract

The quantity and quality of text children are told at an early age has a great influence in their development. Reciting them rhymes and reading fairy tales has an impact on speech development, various mental processes, and establishes identity and the sense of belonging to a culture. The aim of our research is to find out what kind of reading habits mothers of preschool-age children have. The research was conducted using an online questionnaire. 100 mothers answered our questions. The results revealed how often mothers read to their children, the number of books a preschooler in Partium currently owns, and which nursery rhymes and fairy tales are the most popular among children.
