Abstract
The social networking sites and instant messaging apps have made emoticons, stickers, GIFs, internet memes part of self-expression. The article examines the benefits of these new visual-based communication rituals influenced by global trends on individual modes of self-expression. It raises the question of whether a local character can appear in them.
