Financing modells of the local public transport

Abstract
As a result of urbanization tendencies, in 2025 about 70-75% of the world’s population will live in cities based on the forecasts. This means, that cities will become more and more crowded, which will enhance the importance of local public transportation.
Today in Hungary local governments are responsible for the operation of the local public transportation. Regarding the management of the operation and financing there are many well-known methods. The role of clients, service providers and the possible involvement and adaptation of different operators can result in various solutions. In Hungary, for the financing of the public transportation significant operating aid is needed.
With solutions to the demonstrated problems and with the exploitation of the possibilities within the integrated transportation systems, Hungarian public transportation can continue to play an important role in the transportation of cities and therefore in the initiation of viable big cities.
