Abstract
Our paper and the related presentation aim at providing an overview analysis of the changes between 2001 and 2015 of the regulation of the Hungarian higher education entry system. We put emphasis on the entry criteria calculations and the entry number regulation. The Hungarian higher education entry market is highly regulated, and it is under continuous change during the past 15 years. When analysing these changes we introduce the numbers that describe entry trends and touch upon the topic of substitution among fields of education. With this paper we would like to establish a foundation for a larger scale research about the elasticity of choice among fields of education. When analysing the national trends we find that decision-makers seeking entry to the higher education respond very quickly to the incentives created by the government through regulation, however the effects of these shocks disappear very quickly.
