The Lessons to Be Learnt from the High School Entrance Examinations in Mathematics and Their Appearance in Primary Teacher Training “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?”

Abstract

In our study, we examine the mathematics worksheets of the central written exams of recent years, reveal their characteristics and results, and gather what knowledge and skills are needed to successfully solve the problems. As an example, we analyze the math worksheets written on the first exam day in the year 2022. Among the problems given to the 4th, 6th and 8th graders, we will focus on those that caused greater difficulty or were done surprisingly well by the children. For the sake of comparison, we present how the students majoring in primary school teaching at SZTE JGYPK solved the math worksheets for 4th and 6th graders.
