“Be good, gentle, obedient, because such a kid is very friendly!” Moral education between the two world wars in 1-4. class of rending books
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study analyses public and catholic textbooks of the interwar period, examining how the elements of moral education appear in the documents. Based on the research, the results show the typically strong presence of religious and moral contents in the textbooks, throwing light on the fact that the public education of the examined period grabbed all the opportunity to help the pupils to meet the moral expectations of the society. As the analysis reveals, religious contents were the most important for the society, but moral regulations calling for the defence and respect for values like health, environment, community, life, material goods, culture, law and justice, also turn up in the textbooks.
