The meaning of aut in György Szerémi’s memoir

Abstract

The mid-16th-century Latin Epistola de perdicione regni Hungarorum by György Szerémi contains many unusual linguistic phenomena. These include influences of the Hungarian language, where certain words or phrases are mirror translations that are foreign to the spirit of the Latin language and thus can only be interpreted in terms of the Hungarian language. In this paper, I demonstrate that the Latin word aut’s certain appearances in the text are influenced by the Hungarian language.
