On the misogyny of the Juvenalian narrator
Main Article Content
Abstract
Expressions like misogynist and anti-feminist are occurring frequently in the scholarship on Juvenal’s almost 700-line-long Satire 6, as a label applied to not only the text, but also its narrator and in certain cases the poet himself. Accordingly, the misogynistic disposition of Satire 6 is an often researched feature of the poem. In my paper, I approach the question by focusing on the targets of the invective, i.e. the women presented as negative examples to the satire’s addressee, Postumus.
