Abstract

Culture, including literature, can be perceived as a practice of opposing forces, which is, on the one hand, a social ritual that is a loss or sacrifice and at the same time a market-driven, utilitarian production activity. The logic of creation as symbolic action and market-based calculation is the inverse of the economic logic of gifting: the former ideas can be converted to market interests and the latter are marketable convertible ideals. (new) economic criticism not only reveals that Art and Economy, Mind and Money are not necessarily opposed in subordination to each other, but function in some kind of symbiosis, and also appear to be suitable for the recontextualization of certain literary processes. The study examines how the genre, language, cultural position and function of criticism have changed in the age of secondary orality with the appearance and spread of online criticism.
What kind of economic factors could influence the changes, what kind of market processes play a role in the changes of critical discourse forms, from the printed appearance to the linguistic and functional habits of texts transposing onto the web?
