Policies and Reforms in Colombian Afrocaribbean Ethnoeducation the Case of Cartagena de Indias and Palenque San Basilio

Abstract

The RUECA Research Group of the University of Cartagena, led by Dr. Diana Lago de Vergara, from the project of Afro-descendant and Indigenous Teachers in the Colombian Caribbean and its research seedbed “The University goes to School”, participant in the Macroproject of Life Stories of Rural, Indigenous, African and Afro-descendant Teachers, led by Dr. Diana Soto of the Hisula group, has conducted qualitative research and has continued to review documents that have enriched the study on the challenges and new perspectives in Afro ethno-education , in the Colombian Caribbean, case of Cartagena de Indias.


This paper gives an account of consolidated research results and experiential experience, such as a visit to the palenque of San Basilio, settlement of freed slaves, where a pedagogical experience was carried out in schools, community members about culture, social interactions, worldview, among others. At the same time, visits were also made to ethnoeducational institutions in Cartagena de Indias, where many of their students come from the Palenque of San Basilio and other Palenques, complementing the primary information with a documentary review of current policies and regulations.
