Comments on the independent status of some Portuguese prefixes

Abstract
The aim of this work is to represent the less known and atypical characteristic of Portuguese prefixes which is their possible independent status in the sentence. Prefixes that participate actively in the derivation of Portuguese words: des-, in-, super-, sobre-, sub-, pré-, pós- and re- will be analysed. The examples created with the above mentioned prefixes are taken from Cetempúblico corpus. The rare characteristic of prefixes is related with their attributive and substantival function because in this sense they can be considered as items with independent status.
