Absztrakt
Introduction: The backpack is crucial for schoolchildren. Low back pain is a growing
problem worldwide in childhood and adolescents, which can be caused by the (too)
heavy backpack. We have objective data from several countries, which underlying
that the developing children have to carry heavy backpacks day by day. According to
International studies’ recommendation the weight should not be more more than 10%
of the children’s body weight.
Aim: Except the subjective opinions, we did not find any studies, which investigates
the hungarian students’ schoolbag. The purpose of this study was to find out, how much
load the schoolchildren wear - in 3 Hungarian primary schools - and it’s agree with the
recommandation.
Methods: In the survey 500 students took part, but 211 (100 boy, 111 girl; aged 11,2 )
students data were evaluated. We recorded the antropometric data and every participant
measured his/her backpack weight daily, over a week. During the data processing the
weight of the backpack and the weight in the recommandation were compered. The data
were estimated by Statistica 8 software, one sample t-test and variance analysis.
Results: The participants wear avarage 4,7 (± 1,76) kg backpack. According to our
finding the daily avarage load of backpack is significantly higher then the weight given
int he recommandation. Measuring separatly the classes, we found that the lower school
students suffer the most, from the heavy backpack.
Conclusion: In the sample we found that the participants wear over or approximately
the maximal referenced amount of weight, which is equal with the International
studies.
