A fiumei takarékpénztárak működése 1857–1918 között THE OPERATION OF THE FIUMEAN SAVING FUNDS BETWEEN 1857 AND 1918

Absztrakt

A fiumei pénzügyi élet változásai a Fiume gazdaságtörténetével foglalkozó kutatásokon belül is egy eddig kevéssé feltárt területnek minősül. Jelen tanulmányomban a helyi pénzintézetek egy fajtájának, a takarékpénztáraknak a működését vizsgálom meg alapításuktól az első világháború végéig A kikötővárosban kettő ilyen jellegű intézmény működött: a Fiumei községi takarékpénztár 1857-től és a Fiumei Néptakarékpénztár Rt. 1873–tól. Tanulmányomban bemutatom a vállalkozások történetét, a vezetőségek összetételét és üzletpolitikáját; valamint a Compassokból és saját fiumei levéltári kutatásaim alapján a takarékpénztárak mérlegeiből kiolvasható főbb adatokat. Munkámtól azt várom, hogy általa hozzájárulhatok a hazai takarékpénztárak dualizmus kori történetének feltárásához, és rávilágíthatok arra, kik és milyen módon vettek részt a helyi gazdasági elit tagjai közül ezen pénzintézetekben és maguk a takarékpénztárak hogyan működtek a fiumei bankok mellett.

Changes in the financial life of Fiume are also a little-explored area within research on the economic history of Fiume. In the last years, many articles in Hungary and abroad analyzed the local sea navigation companies and factories business and with these relations, they spoke about the local financial culture, but no one tried to present this story from the viewpoint of the financial institutions. In the present study, I examine the operation of a type of local financial institution, savings banks, from their establishment until the end of the First World War. There were two such institutions in the port city: the Fiumean Municipal Savings Bank from 1857 and the Fiumean People's Savings Fund from 1873. In my study, I present the history of businesses, the composition of management, and business policy; and the main data that can be read from the compasses and the balance sheets of the savings banks based on my own archival research in Rijeka. I expect from my work that I can contribute to the exploration of the history of domestic savings banks in the age of dualism and shed light on which members of the local economic elite participated in these financial institutions and how the saving funds themselves operated alongside the Fiume banks.
