Absztrakt

SSC (shared service center) is one of the most dynamically developing sectors in Hungary, creating about two thousand new jobs a year. Higher value-added activities offer career opportunities for well-trained language-speaking people. The acquisition of these centers is also an interest of national economy and at the same time a tool for local economic development.
However, competition is strong on the international SSC market. The article sums up the most important challenges facing the domestic SSC sector and then evaluates the opportunities of rural cities as potential shared service centers. As the real estate market and the labor market of the capital are virtually saturated, the success of the SSC sector’s growth in Hungary depends on if we are able to reduce the Budapest centrism. Successful domestic rural cities (such as Debrecen, Szeged) demonstrate that settlements can achieve results in the domestic SSC sector, whose management recognizes labor market and estate market expectations of the shared service sector investments and develops its existing capabilities accordingly.
The key issue here is the ability to provide a qualified workforce on a long-term basis. For this, we (universities and local governments) have to develope training programs specifically for SSCs needs.
