Abstract

In 1997, the Department of Modern and Contemporary History split into two, and the Department of Modern World History and Mediterranean Studies was established. The profile of our department can be considered special within the Institute of History: in addition to early modern and modern world history, it also includes the teaching and research of the Mediterranean. The department fulfills this dual task, the teaching and research area of our lecturers almost completely covers the two profiles. In the history of the department, the Francophone relations have played a key role from the beginning as well as the early modern and modern history of Eastern and Southeastern Europe, and the modern and contemporary history of the Mediterranean, Western Europe and the USA.
