Absztrakt
Introduction: Since the last century, because the change in pain’s view, the pain sensation’s
physical, psychic, mental and social components have got into forefront. This
complex view came forward in the technique of the measurement of the pain, and made
the application of alternative pain-alleviating methods more frequent. The nurse’s role
is indispensable in this process.
Objective: The aim of the research was to explore what kind of devices are known to
nurses who work in adult in-patient medical departments, and are they useful for measuring
the pain and its damping.
Methods: 114 nurses from various institutes’ adult in-patient wards attended the
research. The device of the examination was a self-filling questionnaire. The processing
of the data was made using basic statistic methods.
Results: The participants of the sample are working in different adult in-patient wards
in which the pain is important and treatable symptom. From the devices which can be
used for measuring the pain the nurses know mostly the unidimensional and categorical
scales, but the answers show that these scales are hardly used in the practice. We can
see similar results from the answers about painkilling methods. The nurses rarely use
non-medical pain-treating methods not taking notice that these can be made in independent
function. The examination also shown that the nurses would like to develop their
knowledge and acquire new techniques.
Conclusion: If we like to talk about pain management in nursing, the nurses in practice
have to apply the measuring devices. We have to help the acquisition of methods which
could be more effective in complementing the medical therapy.
